Budget Cards is a desktop app. Your finances stay on your computer. This page explains what the app and this website do with data — in plain language, not legalese.
We do not have our own cloud. There is no Budget Cards Cloud™, no sync farm, no vault of everyone’s transactions on our disks.
We are one developer with a website and an installer — not a data centre. If your budget is in the app, it is on your machine. We literally have nowhere to put it.
The app (on your computer)
Transactions, categories, and settings are stored in a SQLite database on your machine. We cannot read them remotely because we never receive them. There is no account, no cloud sync, and no registration inside the app.
You can export your data (CSV, JSON, Excel, and other formats supported by the app) anytime. If you uninstall the app, your database file remains on disk unless you delete it yourself.
Optional online features in the app (for example live exchange rates or crypto prices) may contact third-party APIs you enable. Those requests go from your computer to the provider — still not through us, because we have no backend to route them through.
Optional AI
AI features are optional. If you add your own API key (OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, or another compatible provider), requests go directly from your computer to that provider. We do not receive, store, or process the content of those requests on our servers.
If you use Ollama or other local models, inference stays on your machine. You can use Budget Cards without any AI at all — charts and category breakdowns work offline.
This website (budgetcards.se)
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like most hosting providers, Vercel may keep standard access logs (for example IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and operations. We do not use those logs to build advertising profiles.
Download links point to GitHub Releases. When you download an installer, your browser connects to GitHub; GitHub’s privacy policy applies to that connection.
We load fonts from Google Fonts. Loading the site may cause your browser to contact Google’s servers. We do not run Google Analytics or similar third-party analytics scripts on this site.
Price poll (beta)
During the public beta we run an optional poll to help choose a fair one-time price. If you vote, your chosen price range is stored only as an aggregate count (for example “$30–$40: 36%”) — not linked to your name or email.
To limit one vote per visitor, our server stores your IP address in Upstash Redis for up to 30 days under a key used only for duplicate prevention. We do not store which option you picked alongside your IP in that database.
Your browser may save which option you selected in localStorage so the page can show results without asking you to vote again. That stays on your device; it is not a tracking cookie shared with advertisers.
License purchases (when available)
The app is free during beta. When paid licenses launch, checkout will ask for an email address so we can deliver your license key and send a receipt. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store your card number on our servers.
License delivery email may be sent through our email provider (Resend). We use your email only for purchase-related messages, not for marketing lists unless you separately opt in — and we currently do not run marketing emails.
What we do not do
- Sell or rent your personal data
- Run third-party advertising on the app or this site
- Require an account to use the desktop app
- Operate our own cloud (we do not have one — see above)
- Collect or host your transaction history on our servers
Questions or changes
This policy may be updated when features change (for example when checkout goes live). The current version will always be on this page.
